What We Do: There's way more than meets the eye on Hawai'i's busiest island.  Many visitors come to Oahu for the surf, sun and sand, but there's a whole world of cultural and natural treasures that is overlooked in the hustle and bustle of Oahu's busy tourist and urban centers.  Beginning in March, 2012, Oahu X will highlight these unique characteristics through small, guided tours and excursions that provide a structured and engaging way to experience everything from remote jungle flora and fauna to vibrant and colorful fish and reefs to endangered Hawai'i'an monk seals and albatrosses, not to mention one-of-a-kind cultural history and folklore!

Our Goal: Set in one of the most unique, natural settings on the planet, our primary focus is on promoting and preserving the many cultural and environmental features that set Oahu – and Hawai'i, as a whole – apart, while instilling the same appreciation for Oahu's culture and environment that we hold.

The Specifics: Our activities will center around hiking, diving and snorkeling and will be led by myself (Joe) and Patrick, the other co-founder/owner of Oahu X.  Our excursions will definitely be meant for those who like to stay active.  As a result, we like to think of ourselves as an outdoor-lifestyle experience set in the most beautiful place on earth with lots of history and scenery to enjoy along the way!  We will lead all tours on our own and will provide transportation and all necessary equipment.  We currently are trying to raise start up funds for insurance, permits, and equipment.

about entrepreneur

Joseph Briere

Co-Founder/Owner / Oahu X, LLC

Joe is an entrepreneur and writer with experience in non-profit management, real estate, higher education, and government relations. He currently writes and speaks on topics related to sustainable development and coral reef conservation through his non-profit initiative for marine and coastal studies. He is also the author of several journal articles and book chapters on matters relating to critical infrastructure protection and management. He is currently working with his friend and former college classmate, Patrick Tubman, to launch a sustainable alternative to the conventional tour experience on Oahu, Hawai'i through their new project, Oahu X. Joe is on hiatus from writing for a few months to focus on launching this new project, but he is slated to speak next summer at the 12th International Coral Reef Symposium in Cairns, Australia on the potential for impact investment mechanisms to reef conservation efforts.
